Rush Does PSAs for the Humane Society

*edited for new links*

Rush Limbaugh Records Audio Spots for The HSUS

April 14, 2009

Rush Limbaugh has recorded two statements of support for The Humane Society of the United States and its work to protect animals from cruelty and abuse: The first spot is on our partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the country to crack down on organized dogfighting and other animal cruelty crimes.

The second is on our outreach to communities of faith, and the moral obligation that we have to be good stewards of God's creatures.

The HSUS welcomes such vigorous statements of support from Americans of all points of view, and is grateful to Rush Limbaugh for reaching out to his audience with a message of kindness and compassion for animals. Like two-thirds of American households, Rush shares his home with a beloved pet – his cat, Punkin.

The HSUS is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to making ours a kinder world for animals. Among our 11 million supporters – one in every 28 Americans – are Republicans, Democrats and Independents.

Dear Deer

Today is Ali's 9th birthday and my sister got out of school early so we decided to take the dogs for a drive. We picked up some food and went to the forest preserve. I brought my camera with because in the past when we have gone there we've seen deer. Today was no different. I got to take some photos of the deer, although not a bunch because the dogs kept barking at the deer.

It seems to me there has been a huge increase in the deer population in this area. I used to only see them on occasion, now I see at least one group of deer (if not more) every time I go to school.

Black Squirrels

I can never decide if squirrels are adorable or demonic, but this little guy is definitely in the adorable category. All my life around here the squirrels were browny-gray, but for the past year we've seen these black squirrels around. I have no idea where they came from, but for some reason they are just so much neater than the normal ones. He actually shows a bit of dark brown in his fur in the photos than you can't see in person.

How We Treat Animals

I walked over to CVS after work today. There was a guy tying up his dog on the bike rack while he went inside. Its way too hot out there to be leaving the dog out there long, so I'm sort of trusting that he was going to come back soon. Sweet dog, looked like a German Shepherd or he had some in him, didn't make a noise at me when I walked by, just wagged his tail. But the man is standing 15 feet away yelling at the dog to sit down. I don't know if he really believed that the dog was going to sit there as opposed to stand while he was in the store or not, but I have to say it made him look like a psycho.

I generally believe that how people treat animals tells us a lot about how someone will treat other people. Its not 100%, but I think its a good indicator. Well I went into CVS and pick up the items I wanted and I see the dog's owner walking through the store with this angry look on his face, giving dirty looks to everyone. Now maybe I just caught this guy in a bad mood or something, but he was a scary guy. When I walked past him I averted my eyes just to avoid him. Usually I smile at people when I walk past them, this guy just made me want to run away.

Spiders

Tuesday afternoon I was sitting out on our deck and as evening came, spiders started coming out. I started watching this little guy building his web. I used to run away at the sight of a guy like this, but I figured he was a few feet away and I could deal with him being on the deck with me. And I did. It was only until I saw a spider three times the size of this one, that I decided to run back inside.

Racine Zoo

Today we went to the Racine Zoo. Now I can't think of a whole lot of places I would rather be with my camera than a zoo (a beautiful old Church would beat the zoo). I just love animals, and my whole family had a blast taking pictures of them all. My poor Mom and sister were taking pictures of the peacocks when they caught them in an intimate moment, thankfully I missed it. The Orangutans have a bad reputation for that, but even they behaved today.

I took so many pictures and narrowed it down to these (a lot still, I know). I'd normally post the pictures a little bigger, but you can click on them to see them in a larger size.

Ratatouille

We were doing our regular pro-life thing in Chicago today, we're standing there praying and across the street I see a rather large rat run across a driveway and into some bushes. All I'm going to say is that we were lucky that it was across the street (3 lanes of traffic) because if it had been anywhere near me I probably would have tried to climb up on top of a car.

A Doe, A Deer, A Female Deer

or three.

I was sitting out in front of the main building on campus this afternoon (I'm the little red dot) listening to the hum of traffic, the cooing of morning doves. I looked down to play with my phone when I heard shouting. I looked up to see 3 doe run past some ladies into the practice soccer field.

There is usually quite a bit of animal activity on campus (well quite a bit compared to what I usually see just a few miles away at home), squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks. Actually just yesterday I was walking between buildings and I saw a chubby bunny sitting motionless in the grass with the "oh man, I hope she doesn't see me" look. And I've seen lots of deer in the forest preserve to and from campus. But I've never seen them running through before.

I hope they get turned around and back to the woods, there is nothing for them the way they were going.

The map includes the probable course from which the deer came.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
