Has It Been This Long?

I guess I didn't realize how long its been since I've written on here. Being sick doesn't prevent me from being on the computer, actually I'm on more than ever before (which is amazing). I guess I just don't have anything good to say on here, I've been doing the facebook thing instead.

After tonight though I won't have any work or school for the forseeable future so maybe that means I will have more time for this blog.

Catching Up Post

My new computer came last week so I've been playing that more lately than anything else. The bad thing is that its not hooked up to the internet yet so I haven't been keeping up with my internet stuff as much. I've seen lots of stuff that I wanted to post on here, I just haven't done so.

---

Doug Barry and Eric Genuis (of Radix) were at my church over the weekend, they did a talk, question answers sort of thing, and Doug did his one-man passion play. Eric performed before each of the masses, but I missed it as I was sick Sunday morning.

---

Holy Cards for your inspiration had this card one day last week and it tied in actually with what Doug and Eric were talking about.

Meaning of most of the Dutch words on the card:[At the top:]"If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me."[On the great cross:]"I am weighed down by all of your sins."[Some of the words on the small crosses:]"Scrupulosity, Disgrace, Ignorance, Sadness, Torments, Injuries, Severity, Contempt, Poverty, Humiliations, Adversity, Sorrow, Loss of Friends, Illnesses, Trials, Crimes, Disfavor, Misdeeds, Loss of Goodness, Lukewarmness, Prosecutions, Insults"

---

I'm going to try to update on stuff throughout the day. I did want to post about the horrendous attack on religious freedom in Connecticut (BTW I have a mental block on the spelling of Connecticut).

I have to get through my email which has been piling up so much over the past week. I used to love checking my email, now most of the time I dread it.

Lovely Award

Esther and Christine both gave me the Lovely Award. Sorry to both of you for not putting it up here immediately. I tend to put things away for later in the day and that becomes a week.

“These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

The hard thing is always coming up with just a few to give these to and also people who didn't do this a couple weeks ago.

1. Athanasius contra mundum at 50 Days After
2. Derek at Derek's World
3. Nun at NunoftheAbove
4. FloridaWife at Awaiting in Joyful Hope
5. Suzanne at Suzanne's Sisterly Sharings
6. Droopy Brains
7. Lounge Daddy
8. Scott at Sober Nuggets

ALL's Pro-Life Blog Awards

DR at Maritime Sentry nominated me for ALL's 2009 Pro-Life Blog Awards. I invite everyone to go to their website and nominate their favorite pro-life blogs. I don't have any expectation of winning (check out the list they have already, lots of great blogs on there), but its truly one of those moments where just being nominated means it all. Its not a false facade of modesty at work at all, I'm just really impressed that there are people out there who read my blog, and who would think of me when they heard of this award. Thanks DR and anyone else who thought of me.

Back in Action

I'm going to try to get back into blogging, and also just in general catching up with everything that I've put off in the past few weeks. You can just imagine what my inbox looks like.

Hiatus

I'm taking a break from blogging while my Dad is in the hospital. I'll be back when everything gets straightened out.

Updating Links

Oh boy, I have about another 3 hours of work here on campus and not much to do. So I decided at the moment to work on my links along the side of my blog. I've been meaning to update them forever, but this may take a while.

Adopt a Blogger

Athanasius contra mundum has had the great idea of adopting a fellow Catholic blogger, praying for them, commenting on their entries and so on. I think this is a great idea. If you'd like to join in and adopt a blog, place a comment here, and don't forget to mention it on your own blog.

he's actually chosen me as his adopted blog/blogger, which I think rocks since I always need lots of extra prayers. I'm adopting his blog back, its one of my favorites and he always has lots of interesting posts.

Refocusing

I decided I need to refocus my blog a bit. I haven't really put much on here of substance lately. I think its partly the summer, and partly a lack of inspiration for writing. I have a half-written entry on St. Peter sitting in my posts list. I haven't had much to offer lately, which isn't a big deal I don't think, I think my readership plummeted by a large percentage when Ma Beck gave up blogging for the time being.

But like I said I do want to refocus myself and look more at religion and politics, which should be interesting in the next few months. So I guess I'll see how it all goes.

Facebooking Things

I now have a blog network on facebook, but it doesn't believe that I'm the owner of the blog. If anyone is on facebook and would like to join to confirm me I'd appreciate it.

I'd invite my friends from real life to confirm me, but they think I'm weird enough as it is without making them read this blog.

Pardon the Dust

I've been actually working on the design part of the blog today. There are still some things I'd like to do or see if how it can be done, so it probably won't look like this for long.

Catholic Blog Awards

The results are in and American Papist is the winner in the Best Political/Social Commentary Blog. But I received 5 votes, which I still think is pretty darn cool. Thanks to everybody who voted for me.

Faith and Country: 5

I'm Completely Thrilled

I went to go vote for the Catholic Blog Awards, and I saw that I was nominated in the Best Political/Social Commentary Catholic Blog category.

This is one of those cases where just being nominated means everything.

New Years Resolution

My new years resolution is to work on this blog and clean it up a bit on the sides. I've got some old codes that don't work anymore, and when I look at the blog on my laptop the saints pictures at the bottom are all messed up. I'll have to see if I can fix that as well as updating my links on the sides and rearranging. If anyone wants me to add their blog let me know I'd love to (as long as its clean LOL).

Sorry Everyone

I've been so busy this past week that I haven't had a chance to blog (which is too bad because I have about 4 or 5 topics that I want to talk about, but haven't had the chance yet). My inbox is full of emails that I have to return. But I have to scoot off to class in a few minutes. I swear though that I'm not ignoring anyone, I just have a list of stuff that has to get done.

If I remember I'll write more when I get home this evening.

Blogger Award and 8 Things About Me

Esther named my blog as one of the 5 blogs for her Blogger Reflection Award.

1. Sunny of Faith and Country has to be my first choice. Like I mentioned once before, she was one of my first blog friends. What I admire about her blog is that she is a young Catholic who loves God and Country. She is a sensitive and kind blogger and her blogging inspires as I hope it inspires young Catholic everywhere.

Now I'm tasked with coming up with 5 who I would like to honor as well. But as usual I'm sort of a cheater so I'm going to add a few more, but I'm going to pair them up so it looks like I only have 5. Too bad I can't just list all the blogs I read, since I've learned so much from all of them.

1. & 2. Esther of A Catholic Mom in Hawaii and Christine of Ramblings of a Catholic Soccer Mom. I know both Esther and Christine from a yahoo group (Catholic Republicans) and they were the ones that really got me into blogging.

3. & 4. Derek of Derek's Word and Lounge Daddy of Lounge Daddy Chronicles. I know both of these nice fellows from message boards (have we noticed that I spend a lot of time online?). Derek from Discussion Forums and Lounge Daddy from Phatmass. They're both going back to school and I just graduated and am looking to go back so I feel like I've learned a lot from both of them, both on their blogs and on the respective message boards.

5. & 6. Ma Beck of WardWideWeb and PhatCatholic from PhatCatholic Apologetics. I love Ma Beck's blog, she's pro-life, Catholic (traditional Catholic too - St. John Cantius woot), and from Chicago, what more could I ask for from a blog? Phatcatholic's blog is incredibly informative. I'm always learning so much on their, and I just love the way its designed.

CGC of Ruminations of a Christian Conservative Geek and Friends tagged me for a 8 Things About Me Meme so here are 8 things about me.

1. I have this French board on my wall, and its become the catch-all for all the stuff I like to save. I'm too afraid to go through it all so it just keeps collecting and collecting and collecting.

2. I have a small statue of St. Michael the Archangel that I keep on the top of my monitor, an icon of him in front of my one speaker, and a glow in the dark statue-esque (ok I don't even know what to call it) of Mary holding baby Jesus on my desk. Among there are some other little things among the junk, but those are some of the nicer pieces.

3. I love anything having to do with the beach and water. I'm a complete sucker for anything related to them.

4. I finally bought a pro-account on flickr so I can upload all the photos I want, instead of being limited to 200.

5. Almost any movie with Jason Statham, Bruce Willis or begins with Rush Hour and I'm there.

6. Somehow I ended up with a mini-collection of Pius XII medals. I have 9. You can find almost anything on ebay.

7. I have 4 calendars 3 of them haven't been changed since June and one I never even put up.

8. I'm a big fan of Babylon 5. The new movie came out a few days ago and I just can't wait to get my hands on it. I get paid on Friday so after that I might order it.

I'm Blocked

I saw a link to the Great Firewall of China website on 50 Days After. I figured I'd give my blog a shot on it. Last time I tried I was unblocked, but now I'm blocked. I suppose that means I'm doing something right.

ClusterMap

Oooooh, now I'm excited, my ClustrMap is finally working. Although I appear to be visiting my blog the most... well, Chicago is... maybe I'll just pretend its all Ma Beck and not me.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
