The Pope's Hat

I saw Papa Ben's awesome hat yesterday, I figured it was something special, but the caption for the photo just called it a hat. Well it is a special thing, its called the saturno. I've seen a couple of blog posts about it, here and here.

But in this entry was an interesting fact. I had heard this before, but never knew if it was true or not, guess it is.

However, for the Pope it is red (like his shoes and his cape) because the original color worn by Popes was, of course, red. (until Pius V, a Dominican Friar, was elected and chose to continue wearing his white Dominican habit)
