Papist? LOL.

I usually try to check up on lifesite.net daily to check up on pro-life news, but if I don't I usually see it every few days. Today I was checking up on the news when I saw this little jewel.

Swedish Hospital Refuses to allow "Papists" to Discuss Negative Abortion Experiences on Premises

I clicked the article, not so much to read about this hospital that is obviously in bed with the culture of death, but instead to read how someone could possibly be using the term "papist" as an insult in 2006. The article says this

Dr. Bengt Hamark, on staff at the hospital commented to the local paper Göteborgs-Posten: - "Shame on my hospital for opening its doors to a papist anti-abortion organisation".

I realize of course that there are probably some of our protestant brothers and sisters who call us papists as an insult, but I can't ever recall ever seeing it used, and certainly not used in an news sort of article. I could see some evangelizing website talking about papists, but I just can't see it being used. Of course I've read historical documents where people warned against the papists and their romish tendancys, but who knew in 2006 someone might actually be using it and saying it to a newspaper?

In general I think its funny. Of course all you papists out there can buy your papist goods at the Pope Benedict XVI Fanclub Store.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
