Egan Takes Guiliani to Task

I previously criticized Ted Kennedy for his receiving of Communion at the Papal Mass in Washington, Rudy Guiliani also received, and he is now being taken to task by Cardinal Egan. I'm a little surprised, usually the bishops don't say anything.

New York Cardinal Edward Egan says Rudy Giuliani should not have received Holy Communion during the pope's visit because he supports abortion rights.

Egan says he had "an understanding" with the former presidential candidate and New York mayor that he is not to receive the Eucharist. The Catholic Church teaches "that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God," Egan said.

The cardinal said Monday that Giuliani broke that understanding when he received the Eucharist during Pope Benedict XVI's visit earlier this month.

Egan says he will be seeking a meeting with Giuliani "to insist that he abide by our understanding."

I just love this comment from a Guiliani spokeswoman

Giuliani's spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel, said Monday that he is willing to meet with the cardinal but added that his faith "is a deeply personal matter and should remain confidential."

Although I have to say I love her name.

Maybe now that I have criticized Teddy and Rudy I'm back to being bi-partisan.

Kudos to Cardinal Egan.

I sort of see her point, I have my own set of values, but I'm not one to share all of that with the world.

Guiliani has created a public scandal, before he can recieve communion again he has to publicly apologize. Instead of looking at it politically which he is, it needs to be looked at theologically.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
