Going for a Masters or teacher's certification? I wish you well.

Certification. If I got the masters before I get a job and get tenured I hear it would be nearly impossible to get a job.

You mean, if you get a master's degree in teaching before you actually start teaching, it would be harder to get a job?

Is that because a master's degree commands a higher starting salary?

For a nation that desires the best teachers, the best educated and capable teachers, having a master's degree is a negative.

I find that shocking.

So I hear. Lots of people have told me not to get the masters just for that reason - they have to pay you more and so it will be harder to get a job.

I'm not sure I could afford the whole masters, but at least I'd feel like I was really getting something out of the deal.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
