President Ford

I've been thinking about this the past day or two. With what I have seen on the news about President Ford he's the greatest man that ever lived. Maybe he was, I wasn't around during his Presidency and so I don't really have any opinion on him as President or as a man. But what I do know is that before he died I never ever heard anything nice about him. Everything I ever heard about him was that he fell a lot, hit his head, and wasn't conservative enough. Now that he's passed everyone seems to love him. Why is it that nobody ever said that before he died? Shouldn't we say nice things about people when they're still around than wait until they pass?

You are so right. I remember him as president when I was a child. Those were tough times, with Viet Nam and the gas crisis and unemployment.

And he never asked to be president. He was appointed VP, then Nixon resigned.

His wife went through her addiction with dignity and humility. Instead of hiding or ignoring it, she reached out to others through the clinic which bears her name. Not an easy thing to do when you are in the public eye.

I think the Fords were under-appreciated by the public. May he rest in peace!

May he rest in peace.

My husband calls him a "liberal Republican" because he was pro-choice and other stuff.

I don't remember his presidency really. Too young at the time.

You are right on. People were really hard on him - and the fact is he never sought the office. President G.R. Ford was a kind of "accidental president"

True, it was an office he didn’t ask for – but when he did find himself there, he didn’t slack. President Ford did work hard for his country and resolved a lot of tough things during his time in office.

He is sometimes derided as a “liberal Republican” and true, he was very unfortunately pro-abortion); however he was also a huge critic of LBJ – everything from LBJ’s involvement in Vietnam to LBJ’s “Great Society” programs.

Apparently President Johnson made some public comments about Ford that needed to be cleaned up by the press. lol
Any critic that would irritate the “great socialist” President Johnson is ok in my book… if only President Ford were pro-life. Sigh

I didn't know he was pro-choice either :-(
Only thing I remember was during the Bicentennial, he came to my home town. Even though I was a teen at the time, I thought it was so cool to have our president there.

About Me

My photo
Catholic and politically conservative, I graduated with a BA in History (concentration in American) and Political Science. I'm between two parishes; one in Wisconsin that is fairly traditional, and one in Illinois that is fairly liberal. I teach CCD. I work in the food service industry, which basically means I'm working in fast food until I find a better job. I'd like to work for the church somehow. Right now I'm working on getting my teaching certification, although I'm unsure thats the correct path for me. This blog is as random as I am. I hope you enjoy.
